A BRIEF HISTORY
Chair of Internal Medicine No. 6 was founded in 1992, until 2014 being led by Ivan Butorov, university professor.
From 2014 until now, the Chair has been headed by Nicolae Bodrug, university professor, Doctor Habilitated in Medical Sciences.
The Chair's employees are conducting scientific research in the area of occupational medicine, geriatrics and gerontology as regards the impact on the cardiovascular, pulmonary and gastrointestinal systems. Under the leadership of professor Ivan Butorov, 3 Doctor Habilitated theses (S. Matcovschi, N. Bodrug, I. Ţâbârnă) and 13 PhD theses in medical sciences (L. Crivcianschi, R. Fudulei, A. Ţurcan, V. Calancea, V. Şarapanovschi, R. Guzun, Iu. Ichim, E. Cobâleanschi, O. Verbitchi, N. Antonova, A. Dodu, S. Nichita, L. David) were defended. At present 3 PhD theses in medical sciences are being developed.
Employees of the Chair have published more than 300 scientific papers, 25 methodological recommendations for the health care practice, and 7 monographs. The 100 innovation patents obtained in the area of diagnosis and optimization of internal diseases treatment methods have been implemented in the clinical activity of republican and district medical institutions.
New complex methods of treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diffuse liver disease have been applied to the healthcare sector by the staff of the Chair.
The Occupational Diseases Discipline staff maintains scientific cooperation relations with specialized centers in Romania (Iaşi, Cluj-Nopoca, Sibiu), France (Avicenne Hospital, Paris), (Laennec Hospital, Paris), Germany (Freinburg Falk Foundation) and Russia (A.I.Yevdokimov Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry) etc.
In 2018, according to Order 345-A of the Rector, based on Senate Decision No. 9/6 of 28.06.2018 regarding the modification of the organizational structure, the name of the Discipline of occupational diseases was changed to the Discipline of Geriatrics and Occupational Medicine, and the Gerontology Laboratory was transferred to this Discipline.
The Discipline operates in the Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova, in the five sections with therapeutic profile (internal diseases, hepatology and geriatrics), with a general capacity of 185 beds. Here II, IV and VI-year students of Faculties of Medicine No. 1 and No. 2, and residents - internists and family physicians- are being trained.
The Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection is a public health institution of republican level, designed to provide specialized medical care in complex cases, that can not be solved by district and municipal health institutions, to 1941- 1945 war veterans, participants in the Afghanistan war and in the combat actions for the defence of Moldova's territorial integrity and independence, Moldovan Railway state company employees, patients with geriatric diseases and those in need of neurological, orthopedic and cardiological rehabilitation, as well as to higher education and specialized secondary education students in Chisinau.
